Albany
– The Affordable
Housing Partnership (AHP), the lead agency for a fair lending campaign
called HomeSave, will hold a
free home repair workshop at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 14 at Albany’s
Homeownership Center, 255 Orange Street in Albany. (Between Lark & Dove.)
At the seminar, participants will learn how to hire reputable contractors,
maintain their homes, get affordable financing and access a new home repair
loan and grant program. The workshop is free and open to the public.
The
non-profit HomeSave program is designed to help consumers avoid spending
more than they need to on necessary home repairs. “Consumers should be wary
of door-to-door solicitors and contractors who arrange financing,” said
Susan Cotner, Executive Director of AHP. “They may not offer consumers the
best deal.” The seminar will also provide information on housing counseling
agencies and other resources that are available. “The multifaceted
HomeSave Program”, continued
Susan, “helps existing homeowners. It’s multipurpose. We want people to be
aware that there are alternatives to high-cost lenders.”
