First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit

Eligible first-time home buyers who purchase a primary residence between January 1, 2009 and December 1, 2009 have been eligible for up to an $8,000 federal tax credit. Congress has extended the tax credit through April 30, 2010 with additional provisions for contracts that close after that date. The legislation will also add a tax credit for certain existing home owners who buy a new home.
